Scientific fields and scientific panels

When you register journals and series, you also must choose a scientific field for the journal or the series. At this page you can find links to the different scientific fields.

The classification of the scientific fields builds on the classification in Web of Science. A journal or a series can only be registered with one scientific field. This is because each scientific field has a scientific panel and/or a publishing committee with responsibility for the publication channels within its field.

See an overview over the different scientific fields at the NPI webpage.

The mission of the scientific panels

The scientific panels' main task is to nominate publication channels to level 2. But we do often ask the scientific panels to evaluate publication channels at level 1, when we at the decision meetings for level 1 are unsure whether a publication channel should be approved as academic publication channel or not.

The scientific panels are also involved in the decisions about whether we should set a publication channel under discussion (X) or not. When we at the decision meetings for level 1, suggests setting a publication channel under discussion (X), we ask the scientific panel if they agree. When we at the decision meetings for level 1, suggests that a publication channel no longer should be under discussion (X), we also ask the scientific panels if they agree in the decision.
